Couple phase.

A little over a year ago I was sitting in a hospital room with my dad, waiting for him to make a full recovery.  There was a lot of sitting and waiting and Words with Friends playing.  It was a long five days.  I remember the countless number of friends that came to visit.  One after another…people were stopping by to say hello.  Friends.  Good friends.  At one point I told my mom how a part of me was jealous at the number of friends they had.  And not just acquaintances…but really good friends.  I explained to my mom that while I love my friends more than anything…there are only a few of us.  She went on to explain that life gives you friends in phases.  You have childhood friends.  College friends.  Couple friends.  Kids friends.  Retirement friends.  The more that life unfolds…the more friends it gives you.  While I was skeptical, she made a good point.  I kind of forgot about it after that and continued to own my brother in Words with Friends.

A little over a year later…life couldn’t be more different.  I feel like I have friendships busting at the seams.  I have made friends over this last year that will last a lifetime.  Friends that I’m not sure how I ever lived without.  The friendships I’ve had forever have grown that much stronger…and the new ones have found a special place in my heart.  And just like my mom said…Gary and I have made couple friends.   Friends to double date with and laugh about the mundane.  Friends to live life with side by side.  Friends in the couple phase…just like us.  And I don’t know what I’d do without them…
