People ask me if I’m a newborn photographer and my gut reaction is to say no. I’ve always felt like newborn photography is an art in it’s own and a place I just don’t excel. I’m not the greatest at wrapping your baby up in gauze and putting them in a basket in the middle of the woods. While I’ve nailed it a couple times, I’m just not awesome at making it look like your little bundle of joy is casually snuggled up on the top of an antique crate. And trust me…there are people who KILL at that kind of stuff. I’m just not one of them. But I’ve come to realize that there is something I am good at. Which I like to think is what makes me a good photographer in general. I can document the feeling. The fleeting time in your life when you bring that baby home. What it’s like to love something so tiny and new. To in an instant, go from a couple to a family. When people ask me to photograph their newborns I know it’s because they want to remember what this time in their life feels like. Because those moments will be gone far too fast.
Like Sonja and Praveen. I’ve said a million times how much I love documenting the lives of my wedding couples. It’s just something so special to me that I get to continue to tell their story. So when they asked me to document their little piece of perfection, Anja…I was all over it. Anja is a little angel who is so lucky to have such incredible parents. <3
